1. Describe a long journey/short trips you would like to make again.
You should say:
Where you went
Who you went with
What you did during the trip
And explain why you would like to make the trip again.
The journey that I’d like to say a few words about was a seven-hour train journey from Beijing, the place where I lived, to … , which is a medium-sized coastal city in china with a population of 5 or 6 million.
I went on the journey with the family because we had a sort of family ritual of taking some days off in a city on the coast in summer, taking advantage of the cool coastal weather and having a try of fresh seafood.
On the trip, we had so much fun. For example, at daytime, we visited several places of interest while, in the evening, we went out for a walk in a beautiful sandy beach.
The reason that I’d love to revisit … is that when I compare it to other seaside resorts, London is more attractive in terms of its architecture and climate.
2. Describe a situation when you received some useful advice.
You should say:
What the situation was
Who gave you the advice
What the advice was
And explain how this advice was useful to you.
The situation that springs to mind was that once I was caught up by the sudden change at work. The situation first hotted up when one of my bosses quit his job all of sudden, so there was a small mix-up of orders and everyone was making a drama out of it.
It was my girlfriend who gave me some good advice on what to do while I was in a race to step into my ex-boss’s shoes. However, I didn’t take her advice since I thought she underestimated my ambition to play a more important role in my company, striking gold from it.
Indeed, she advised me to back off, in other words, I was strongly advised against taking part in the competition because as far as she could tell, I was naive and lack experience in managing, so if I got promoted, I would, without doubt, mess things up and the naivety would cost me dear.
The explanation that her advice was sound is that it turned out that I was never the favorite even at the very beginning and after I realized that I was knocked out in the first round, I was so frustrated in the result. In retrospect, if I had acted on her advice, I wouldn’t have had to just grin and bear it / come to term with it.
3. Describe a book that you read recently.
You should say:
What it was
What it was about
Why you read it
How often you read it
And explain what effects the book had on you.
The book that comes to mind was a historical novel based on a true story. I chose to read it because I thought a historical story makes good bedtime reading; it is always an easy read for me since I love history so much.
The story was about the English civil war taking place from 1630s to 1650s in which the king at the time was beheaded and therefore it brought about profound changes in the modernization of the island and even that of the western hemisphere.
The reason I read the book was when it came out, a lot of booker reviewers gave it good reviews, so it was highly recommended. Besides, although there were a lot of violence and bloody scenes in the book, it turned out that everything worked out well for central characters, so it had
